In the last issue we wrote about the advantages of satellite data transmission technologies and about existing projects in the agricultural sector. New technologies are no less interesting for the corporate sector.
- JSC "Kazpost" has implemented a project on automation in rural post offices. What tasks did you face in this project?
- We were faced with the task of automating 259 rural post offices throughout the republic and collecting all data in a central server in Almaty for the operability of the corporate information system (hereinafter - KIS). The solution was necessary, since the CIS allows you to keep records of the income and expense of funds in an automatic mode without the possibility of change, which allows you to reduce personnel errors, risks associated with the human factor and ensure control over the work with finances online.
Additional advantages of automation include a reduction in the required time for issuing pensions, receiving monthly utility bills, which leads to minimal queues at branches. The main difficulty here was to provide all rural post offices with high-quality and constant communication.
- What solution was chosen?
- Since we are talking about remote post offices, we opted for modern satellite data transmission technologies. An important criterion for us was working with the industry leader, which implies extensive experience in organizing high-quality communication, the efficiency of work and the professionalism of employees.
All this was provided to us by ASTEL with Skyedge C satellite equipment, which today turned out to be unique and the best in terms of price-quality ratio among similar proposals for fixed satellite communications, within the framework of our tasks.
- Have you encountered any difficulties in the implementation of the project? The volume of work was large, because it was more than 250 branches covering the entire territory of the republic and often located in hard-to-reach areas, while it had to be completed in a short time.
- The project started on October 9, 2015, and before winter came, we were able to very efficiently and quickly complete the main part of the work, thanks to the correct planning of the work schedule by ASTEL, taking into account the different times of the onset of winter in the northern and southern regions. With the beginning of winter, of course, additional difficulties arose, but they did not prevent us from continuing the project.
- So, how many branches have you managed to provide with automation?
- We are glad to inform you that as of December 31, 2015, all 259 branches were automated.
- What are your plans for this year? Will you continue to automate other departments?
- Yes, this year we plan to automate about 100 additional rural post offices. All of them are also located in hard-to-reach regions. Have you already noticed the changes in the work of the branches after the automation was provided? What positive points could you point out? First of all, we were able to start working in KIS in full force, which in turn made it possible to receive data on the accounting of funds in each individual village in real time.
This is very important for improving the quality of staff work and, in general, for speeding up work processes in departments. After the implementation of the solution, the number of mistakes made by employees due to the human factor decreased, and this is already noticeable, although not much time has passed.

- What peculiarities in working with the corporate sector did you notice when implementing a project for Kazpost JSC?
- The peculiarities of the project implementation for Kazpost JSC, as a company with an extensive branch network, consisted in the fact that it was necessary to draw up a work execution plan, to develop detailed instructions for the personnel.
Solve logistic and administrative issues, monitor and record the installations of satellite stations and, in the end, bring together the efforts and work of many people on both sides, which was successfully accomplished. To date, ASTEL has installed more than 658 similar satellite terminals Skyedge C throughout the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan
